5 Days Tour – Perugia

Discovering Umbria

  • Day 1: The arrival

The Tour starts in the Airport of your arrival. We will welcome you on board of our comfortable 56 seats Iveco Magelys bus. First stop at the Hotel in Perugia or nearby, to drop off luggage and relax after the long trip. It may be possible to have a quick visit of the city during the night, before overnight stay.

  • Day 2: Perugia

The second day is dedicated to the visit of Perugia. Bus transfer to the centre of the town. You will visit the Palazzo dei Priori, as in other Italian medieval communes, it was the seat of the priori (first citizens), the Collegio del Cambio, the Fontana Maggiore, a monumental medieval fountain, the Perugia Cathedral, a Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to Saint Lawrence and the old town centre, all monuments have great historical and cultural value.

  • Day 3: Assisi

On the third day, bus transfer to the medieval city of Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, Patron Saint of Italy, who founded the Franciscan religious order in the town in 1208. The main sights are the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi, the lower church has frescoes by the late-medieval artists Cimabue and Giotto; Santa Maria Maggiore (St. Mary the Greater), the earliest extant church in Assisi; the Basilica of Santa Chiara (St. Clare) with its massive lateral buttresses, rose window, and simple Gothic interior, begun in 1257, that contains the tomb of the namesake saint and 13th‑century frescoes and paintings; the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli (St. Mary of the Angels), which houses the Porziuncola, the place from where the Franciscan movement started and many others. UNESCO collectively designated the Franciscan structures of Assisi as a World Heritage Site. In the evening back to the hotel in Perugia.

  • Day 4: Spello, Spoleto, Marmore Falls

On the fourth day, bus excursion in some of the prettiest cities of Umbria. Start from Spello, medieval hamlet on the lower flank of Mt. Subasio; then Spoleto and visit of the Roman theatre, Sant’Ansano Church and Drusus and Germanicus Arch. In the afternoon bus excursion to the Marmore Falls, a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans. Its total height is 165 m (541 feet), making it the tallest man-made waterfall in the world. Back to Perugia by bus.

  • Day 5: Gubbio, end of the Tour

Depending on the flight departure time, possibility to go for an extra excursion in Gubbio, one of the most ancient cities of Umbria. Visit to the old town center, the Piazza Grande, the Palazzo dei Consoli, the Cathedral and the Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo. After the visit of the city, bus transfer to the Airport.
